Abstract

This paper focuses on the trading activities and shipping of Southeast Asians in Makassar. Makassar is a port city created as a maritime trade center in eastern Indonesia which has developed into a trading zone in the 14th century. This shows that inter-island base activities had begun several centuries earlier. This study discusses the trade and shipping activities carried out by Southeast Asians in socio-economic changes in the seafaring communities of Southeast Asians in Makasssar. This research is a historical study using qualitative. The date obtained through the study of literature by looking for references through books and other literature review. The data obtained were then processed successfully using historical methods namely heroic, critique, interpretation and historiography
